What is Laser Therapy?
Low level laser therapy is a technology that uses a combination of light emitting diodes (LEDs) and lasers diodes to bathe diseased or traumatized tissues with photons. These particles of energy are selectively absorbed by the cells in your body resulting in a cascade of reactions leading to the restoration of normal cell structure and function.
Laser therapy is a curative technology. By facilitating optimal cell function it enhances your body’s natural healing mechanisms thereby eliminating symptoms, including pain. #DiscoverYourPotential!
Compared to traditional treatments, patients who receive cold laser therapy in combination with a comprehensive management system recover from injury faster, with less scar tissue and enjoy superior outcomes.
How Does it Work?
Laser therapy does not just mask the pain, it actively stimulates healing to resolve musculoskeletal conditions for the long term.
The BioFlex low intensity laser system is a three step process using three different and very specific wavelengths of light administered by a trained laser therapist.
The first step uses a red light LED pad that generates light that is absorbed by the cells of the skin and underlying muscle layers, reducing sensitivity caused in those areas. The second step uses an infrared pad generating light that reaches deeper into the muscle layers as well as the tendons and ligaments to reduce inflammation and heal damaged tissues. The third step includes an infrared laser wand that is specifically placed over the source of pain. This light is very concentrated and targets the deepest affected tissues, including bone. In combination, these steps lead to the reduction and eventual elimination of pain and restored mobility.

What Conditions Benefit From Laser Therapy?
Perspective
Earlier this year I was inspired by Dr. Norman Doidge’s book The Brain’s Way of Healing. The book is a wonderfully hopeful read exploring unlikely recoveries from mental and physical ailments such as strokes, chronic pain and Parkinson’s Disorder. I was particularly intrigued by his chapter on low level laser therapy (aka: cold laser, low intensity laser and photobiomodulation) and started investigating the technology. After 6 months of product reviews, extensive searches of the literature and review after review of positive outcomes, I elected to make a leap and added it to my physical therapy practice at IPA Physio in Portland, Oregon.
As a practicing manual Physical Therapist, I have always been a skeptic to the effectiveness of modalities such as ultrasound and electric stimulation. I have long held the belief that I can accomplish more in a session with my hands and by completely engaging with my patients on multiple levels. Since integrating The Bioflex Laser System into my practice I am shocked to the effectiveness of the technology in the management of both recent and chronic injuries when combined with the FMT approach. I’m now a believer and I hope you will be too. Please share in my excitement to further enhance your quality of life, eliminate the dependency on pain medication and avoid costly surgeries!
