Patient-Centered Care
IPA Physio operates as an out of network provider because of our mission to provide the highest quality
methodical physical therapy. The increasingly restrictive medical business model necessary for an “in-network”
insurance-based PT practice is not aligned with our mission and it does not support our patient-centered
Functional Manual Therapy (FMT) treatment model.
Selecting IPA Physio as your physical therapy provider is a choice for higher quality of care, and it can
actually save you money! Watch our video and read the information sections below. Call us with any questions.
We want you to make an educated and informed decision about where to seek physical therapy.
The Out-of-Network Advantage
We accept insurances as an “out-of-network” provider. This means you can see us for physical therapy purposes. But, unlike an in-network provider, we collect payment in full at the time of service and help you get reimbursed.
Our policy is to charge you at each visit, as per the billing rates listed below. Even though we do not participate in your insurance network, we are fully credentialed by insurance companies to submit claims and help you get reimbursed for our services.
As a complimentary service, IPA Physio will discuss with you, in detail, your benefits with you and how your plan will benefit you under our care – allowing you to focus on more the important (and less confusing) things in life. Visit our FAQ section or contact us for more details.
Direct Access & Your Patient Rights
In Oregon (and all 50 states), patients have the right to seek some level of treatment from a licensed physical therapist without a prescription or referral from a physician. This means that a patient can come to IPA Physio Portland for an evaluation/assessment without a doctor’s referral. Not all insurance plans require a medical doctor’s prescription, but some do.
If you have already consulted with your provider, or plan to, your physician may refer you to a specific physical therapy facility, whether it’s simply the first clinic that comes to the doctor’s mind at the time, or an affiliated office where he/she has ownership and financial interest. Upon referral to PT, you are not bound to receive services at any specific PT provider and it is your legal right and to seek treatment from the physical therapist of your choice.
The Consumer Bill of Rights protects your right to a choice of health care providers that is sufficient to provide you with access to appropriate high-quality health care.
Our Rates
At IPA Physio we not only believe this is the ideal way to deliver the best possible care to you,
our patient, but we know that it can save you both time and money.
Traditional vs. IPA Physio
If your current co-pay for physical therapy is $40, and you are seeing your therapist 3 days/week that works out to $120/week for about 45 minutes of attention from your therapist. Unfortunately, this time, is often not the skilled time or even hands-on and is focused on providing the necessary updated documentation for continued insurance coverage.
Depending on the condition, the average patient stays in conventional therapy for 6-8 weeks, which works out to a total cost of $720-$960 in immediate out-of-pocket costs. At the same time, if you have not met your deductible, you will end up being retroactively billed by the in-network clinic for the full cost of all of those appointments, which is your responsibility to pay. This can literally end up costing you thousands of dollars. If you are unsure of what your deductible is, contact us and we can reach out to your insurance company and get all of the information for you to help you understand the cost analysis between your likely in-network and out-of-network costs for physical therapy.
Alternatively, attending sessions at IPA Physio Portland at a cost of $250 for an evaluation then $200 per subsequent treatment for a complete hour of their therapists time, on average requiring 1 visit per week for 3-4 weeks. This brings the total cost to our clinic to $650-$850, not including potential reimbursement from insurance.

Recovery in 1/2 the Time
These cost savings are magnified if your insurance co-pay for physical therapy (usually the amount listed under specialist co-pay) is higher than $40, if you have a high deductible on your insurance plan, if your insurance company has denied further PT for your condition, or if you have used all of your allotted visits for the year. These scenarios all have one thing in common, you are still going to pay the full cost out of pocket for your care. If you do this at a traditional PT office that accepts insurance you are going to be getting the same 15 minutes of attention from your therapist, but instead of simply paying your co-pay you must pay for the entire visit.
If you combine not only the money saved, but also factor in time saved with fewer visits to the clinic, and less time in pain you will see why IPA Physio is providing a significant bargain to our patients.
12 weeks traditional PT = $1,440
6 weeks with IPA Physio = $1,200
