Pete Rumford graduated from Westmont College with his B.S. in Kinesiology in 2006 and earned the degree of Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of California San Francisco in 2011. He began practicing in Palo Alto, California as a resident in an American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) credentialed Residency program in Functional Manual Therapy. This residency program prepared him to test for his Certification in Functional Manual Therapy (CFMT), which he passed with Distinction (>94% cumulative score) in August 2012. Following certification Pete spent one year with the Institute of Physical Art (IPA) Residency Program, VARDAN, in Mumbai, India and New Delhi, India. During this time he served as clinic director and mentor to the Physiotherapists studying Functional Manual Therapy in India. After moving back Stateside, Pete joined the team at IPA Manhattan in New York, NY, where he practiced for three years and earned his Fellowship in Functional Manual Therapy (APTA\/American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) credentialed Fellowship). In June 2017 Pete received the designation of Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) through the APTA. In September 2017 Pete partnered with Ryan Johnson to open IPA Physio Orange County in Irvine, CA.<\/p>\n

Pete has been a faculty member with the IPA since 2012, teaching multiple courses for the Institute. He is a primary instructor for \u2018CoreFirst Strategies\u2019, ‘Functional Mobilization Lower Extremity’ and \u2018Dynamic Foot and Ankle\u2019, and is an associate faculty for \u2018Functional Mobilization 1\u2019.<\/p>\n

In addition to being an active member of APTA and AAOMPT, Pete is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). His passion for holistic health and well-being extends to the realms of Strength and Conditioning\/Fitness, Nutrition, Psychology, and Spirituality.<\/p>\n

Ryan Johnson graduated from Westmont College with a BS in Biology, and then earned the degree of Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of California San Francisco in 2011. After graduating, Ryan enrolled in the Institute of Physical Art\u2019s APTA Credentialed Orthopedic Residency in Eugene, Oregon mentoring under Michael Baum, PT, CFMT and Kent Keyser, PT, MS, OCS, COMT, ATC, CKTP, FFCFMT, FAAOMPT. He then moved to Delhi, India and worked for 3 months as Residency Co-Director\/Instructor for the Institute of Physical Art\u2019s Functional Manual Therapy Residency program, where he was involved in training 14 Indian Physiotherapists in Functional Manual Therapy. Upon returning from India he tested for his Certification in Functional Manual Therapy (CFMT), which he passed with distinction (greater than 94% cumulative score). He then relocated to New York City, where completed the Institute of Physical Art\u2019s AAOMPT\/APTA Credentialed Functional Manual Therapy Fellowship program under the direct mentorship of Dean Hazama, MPT, FFMT, FAAOMPT. After completing his fellowship, Ryan chose to stay and practice at IPA Manhattan in New York City for a total of 11 years, where he assisted in teaching the FMT Fellowship Program out of that clinic. In 2024 Ryan relocated to Orange County, California to work at IPA Physio Orange County and assist Pete Rumford in teaching the FMT Fellowship Program. Ryan is passionate about helping patients, many of whom have struggled finding solutions and relief elsewhere.<\/p>\n

In 2015 Ryan founded the IPA Physio brand of clinics, and has partnered with multiple CFMTs around the country to open practices that he believes were designed to best embody the “patient-centric” concepts of Functional Manual Therapy as taught through the Institute of Physical Art. Ryan is a faculty member for the Institute of Physical Art, teaching several continuing education courses each year.<\/p>\n

Jessica Workman earned her B.S. in Physiology and Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego, in 2009. She then went on to complete her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in San Marcos in 2012. Jessica began her career in an outpatient orthopedic clinic in Thousand Oaks before transitioning to a mixed outpatient orthopedic and neurological practice specializing in vestibular disorders in March 2014. In 2021 she became a Certified Functional Manual Therapist scoring honors recognition and began as a staff Physical Therapist at IPA Physio OC. She completed The Functional Manual Therapy Fellowship through the Institute of Physical Art and became a Fellow of American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists in 2025. She is now the Team Lead of IPA Physio Long Beach.<\/p>\n

With a focus on treating complex neurological, vestibular, and orthopedic conditions, she utilizes Functional Manual Therapy, Craniosacral Techniques, and Visceral Manipulation. She continues her in depth studies into treating a broad array of complex systems such as airway\/sleep disorders, connective tissue disorders, postpartum conditions, concussions, and enhancing athletic performance. This continues to grow her passion for treating individuals with complex multisystem involvement, recognizing the unique challenges these patients face. Her approach centers on a holistic evaluation of the person, their environments and lives, collaborating closely with her patients, their physicians and loved ones to help them return to the activities and lifestyle that bring them joy.<\/p>\n

Kevin Hartsough studied Kinesiology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy at Whittier College and then earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Mount Saint Mary\u2019s University in Los Angeles. He started his career working in three outpatient orthopedic clinics in Long Beach, Newport Beach and Irvine and a home health company in the OC area. There he treated a diverse population ranging from high school and college athletes, post-surgical, general orthopedic, post-stroke and Parkinson\u2019s. His treatment philosophy involves a whole body approach to help create an environment for healing. He is passionate about optimizing human movement to promote a lifestyle for his clients to pursue their goals and desires.<\/p>\n

Kevin achieved his Certification in Functional Manual Therapy (CFMT) with honors (>90% cumulative score) through the Institute of Physical Art (IPA) in August 2023. He immediately transitioned into the Functional Manual Therapy Fellowship Program offered through IPA Physio Orange County. His practice is centered around injury\/disease prevention, optimizing lifestyle factors, and promoting a mindset of thriving throughout one\u2019s lifespan.<\/p>\n

Callan Madden was born and raised in Australia. He graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Exercise Science degree in 2011 and a Master of Physiotherapy degree in 2013. After graduating, Callan worked with a variety of patient populations in an inpatient setting, including post-surgical (general and orthopedic), amputee, post-stroke and spinal cord injury patients in a rehabilitation center, and acutely injured patients in the emergency department. He also worked with professional athletes in Australia. After 4 years of long distance dating, he moved to the US and married his wife. He then completed a transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Michigan-Flint in 2019.<\/p>\n

After completing his transitional doctorate, Callan worked in an outpatient orthopedic clinic. Here he worked with a large variety of patient populations including acutely injured patients, post-operative patients, middle-school, high-school, and college athletes, the aging and elderly, and patients with neurological and vestibular disorders.<\/p>\n

Callan is passionate about providing specialized and individualized care to all individuals who are driven to improve their lives and reach their fullest potential.<\/p>\n

Andrea Bickford, PT, DPT, OCS, ATC earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Dickinson College before completing a Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Science with a concentration in Athletic Training at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Prior to pursuing her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, Andrea worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer with the U.S. Army, providing injury screening, evaluation, rehabilitation, and injury prevention education for soldiers undergoing Basic Combat Training. This experience laid a strong foundation in musculoskeletal care, resilience, and performance under demanding conditions.<\/p>\n

Andrea went on to receive her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Southern California in 2016. Following graduation, she completed an Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency at the University of Miami, where she received advanced clinical training and mentorship in orthopedic physical therapy, manual therapy, and pain science. She became a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) in 2018.<\/p>\n

Andrea has practiced in a wide range of outpatient orthopedic and sports physical therapy settings, treating patients across the lifespan\u2014from pediatric to geriatric\u2014and across the spectrum of care, from acute injuries to complex and persistent pain conditions. Her experience includes working closely with pain management physicians in an interdisciplinary clinical and research setting, which deepened her interest in the multifactorial nature of pain and recovery.<\/p>\n

In recent years, Andrea has pursued advanced training in visceral manipulation through the Barral Institute, along with certification in Functional Nutrition for Chronic Pain through the Integrative Pain Science Institute (2019). She is passionate about integrating these approaches with Functional Manual Therapy to address movement dysfunction and chronic pain by treating the whole person, not just the site of symptoms.<\/p>\n

Andrea is excited to join the IPA team and looks forward to continuing to build on her integrative and orthopedic treatments in a collaborative, patient-centered environment. In addition to her clinical practice, she has a strong commitment to education and mentorship, having served as adjunct faculty, teaching assistant, and clinical instructor within multiple Doctor of Physical Therapy programs, and contributing to residency education through clinical mentorship and instruction. Andrea is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and maintains certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC). Her clinical philosophy centers on thoughtful, individualized care that considers the interconnected systems of the body to help patients move with greater ease and resilience.<\/p>\n

Rebecca, a Huntington Beach native, has always embraced an active Southern California lifestyle. Growing up, she pursued a variety of sports, with a strong focus on competitive soccer and martial arts. She earned dual Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Art History\/Administrative Studies from the University of California, Riverside, where she was deeply involved in community service. Her work included supporting K-12 children facing mental health challenges and volunteering at the campus garden to cultivate and distribute locally grown organic food.<\/p>\n

With compassion and empathy at the core of her approach, Rebecca is dedicated to uniquely assisting others. She is excited to join the IPA Physio team and looks forward to making a meaningful impact.<\/p>\n

\n

Kendyl was born and raised in the Bay Area and recently relocated to Orange County. From a young age, she was involved in a variety of athletic and extracurricular activities, including competitive dance, soccer, and volleyball. Over time, she chose to focus on volleyball, competing at the club, beach, and high school levels.<\/p>\n

Kendyl pursued her passion for health and human performance by earning a degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Chico, where she also completed a minor in Business Marketing. Her academic background allowed her to gain valuable experience working with athletes both on and off the court.<\/p>\n

She brings a well-rounded perspective and a strong commitment to helping others, and is excited to be part of the team at IPA Physio.<\/p>\n
